A Sweet Getaway

This weekend I went to Manhattan with my friend, Pauline, and her sister, Christy. We planned to go to a Ukrainian Festival. Although once we got there we got to see Dance Studios preform. It was a Parade or something of that sort. There were colorful costumes that stood out and different kinds of dances. Something you wouldn’t find very often.

One of the many Dance Studios that were performing on Saturday! It was a thrill! Simply an amazing thing to see.

DancersOther than that, we did attend Ukrainian Festival and they had children performing in national clothes.

FestivlAfter that, we went to get some food at Shake Shack and only two words describes the food there, absolutely delicious! We got burgers, a smoothie, fries, and concretes!

Food

It was the best. Aside from the rain drizzling. After that we decided to go to Soho where we met another friend, Menyee. There were many things we saw walking through the streets, some stores we haven’t turned our attention to in the past. It felt as though we were still exploring the city we already knew. It was great, even if I stopped every few minutes to take pictures of the things that were surrounding us.

Learning to Live. Living to Learn.

The intensive I’m blogging about is called “Learning to Live. Living to Learn.” It’s one of the many intensives school is offering to students. Clarissa and I went to check out this intensive to see what the students are doing on the last day. The week of the intensive was mostly spent on them visiting colleges and trying to figure out what career they would like to pursue.

They went to visit SUNY Center, New Community College, St. Joseph’s College, and Pratt Institute. After four days of visiting, now have time to sit down and research carrers in depth. While I was there, I sort of interviewed Jazmine and Sharon about what they were doing. Jazmine said she would like to become a veterinarian and Sharon said she wants to become a chef. Jazmine said to Sharon, “You better become a chef so you can come to my house and cook food!” Both of them are still looking at the colleges they’d like to attend. Jazmine has Brooklyn College in mind and Sharon is looking at Montclair State University although she is still not decided.

With all the traveling around colleges this week one thing is for sure: Study hard and you will be rewarded with being able to go to College/University of your dreams!

Went to tumblr. headquarters with Ms. Schenck, Ms. Dunzelman, and other guys from the intensive! Our intensive is about blogging so that seemed like a perfect fit! Had lots of fun exploring there. They have a “Doggy Room” which, yes, has dogs in it! That probably made my day already. Never seen so many laid back people. Who thought work could be that fun for some? Have to admit, definitely not me.

Got some stickers while we were there!

Heard a story about a guy who shaved his head to have a ” t ” on the back which was something he did to celebrate his two years working at tumblr! Too bad the internet does’t have an image of that.. But instead here’s a picture of some awesome pins I got! Love my pins!

Little Things

Describe a little thing — one of the things you love that defines your world but is often overlooked.

My earrings. Yes, it’s an odd thing to write about but it’s definitely something I overlook time and time again.

I have a special pair of earrings that were bought by my grandparents as a present for my birthday. They were bought in Ukraine and they were brought all the way to UK so I could get them. I still have the earrings but I don’t wear them as much as before. I’m glad that I still have them since my grandfather has passed away and the earrings are just another reminder of him in my memories.

These are the earrings I received on my birthday.

Accidental Book Discoveries

When I go to Barnes & Noble bookstore, the first thing I look at is Mystery section. My favorite are mystery books…or so I thought for a long time. I was waiting for a friend outside the bathroom and accidentally came across a book that I wouldn’t normally read. It was called “Can You Keep a Secret?” by Sophie Kinsella. It was probably put there by someone who didn’t really have time to go all the way to the second floor and place it with the other books in it’s category. I do that sometimes myself too. >.< It’s a romantic comedy, very easy to read and it can make you laugh.

The image of the book on the right is what my book looks like. Really an amazing book to read.

“Relationships are all about trust and equality. If one person shares, then the other person should share, too.”― Sophie Kinsella, Can You Keep a Secret?

Quote found on this link.

I read a little of the first chapter and I was captured. It’s rare that I find a book which can interest me this much. This book gave me a lot of laughs, which made my brother think I’m weird. What he said was, “Who would laugh while reading a book? You’re not normal.” That comment made me throw a nearby pillow at him. I finished reading the whole book in a couple of hours. At really surprising and attention holding chapters I’d close the book. Then reopen it in a minute to continue reading. I really couldn’t stand away from the book until I finished it. Emma is someone who blurted out all her secrets to a person that was sitting next to her on a plane. Thank goodness no one she knows will really find out! – Or will they? The story starts unfolds and the only way you can find out is to read it! I will not give any more details since I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who might be interested in reading this book. I recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romantic comedy.

Central Park Scavenger Hunt

Today was the day we went to Central Park. Yay! I was just really happy to get outside. The Intensive Class is about blogging! So getting outside was supposed to help get our creative juices flowing.

This is the place our scavenger hunt took place! It was a very unusual hunt, but definitely my favorite.

Everyone received a hunt that would compliment their blog. I thought that was pretty awesome. I was worried about coming up to random people and asking them if I could take a picture. That was definitely something i wasn’t used to and it felt really refreshing do do that.

one of the things on my scavenger hunt list was take a picture of somebody reading.

Believe it or not, it was hard for me to find someone that was reading in Central Park. It was a little awkward asking this random person if I could take his picture. But after I did it, I felt like I actually got out of my shell and I could get done with my hunt.

This is probably the best looking horse in NYC I've seen so far. Maybe.

There were other pictures I’ve taken which were just of my surroundings, and I really loved the pictures that Nina and I got.

I really liked this picture. It gives a feeling of a city jungle.

This hunt was supposed to help everybody in our class get started with their first blog post. I have to admit that for a really long time today I’ve been trying to figure out what I was going to say, hopefully I won’t take forever with my next post.
